Episode 58: Complete Savage

It’s time to hop on the 6:05 once again for another week of the Superpodcast!  The Great Brian Last is joined this week by John McAdam, and this completely savage episode of the Mothership features:

– A look at the career of Jimmy Snuka, trying to weigh his accomplishments while acknowledging his scandals.  We look at 1983, when his career reached new heights while at the same time his demons led him down a dark road which culminated in the death of his girlfriend Nancy Argentino.  We talk about the major angles he was a part of, his popularity with WWF fans, and attempt to understand how to look at his place in wrestling history.

– Part two of our discussion with Tom Hankins, author of “The Mat, The Mob & Music,” sees Tom talk about his friendship with the legendary Dr. Jerry Graham.  We hear what the Doc thought about Eddie Graham, the McMahons, and Andre The Giant.  Tom also talks about his bar room run-in with Pat Patterson and how that led to his appearance on the famed 1992 episode of Donahue covering the WWF sex scandals.

– Australian wrestling historian Ed Lock joins the show again for part two of our discussion about World Championship Wrestling and Mario Milano.  Ed talks about 1973, which was the biggest year in Australian wrestling history and the last year Jim Barnett promoted there.  We hear about the change in ownership and how the promotion changes.  Ed also tells us about Mario Milano’s later years and where Mario’s place in Australian wrestling history is.

– TGBL & John discuss numerous topics throughout the show, including Misty Blue, The Von Erichs, the heel run of the Brisco Brothers, the 5 star rating system, the Varsity Club, Bruno Sammartino losing the belt to Ivan Koloff and much more!  Plus, Stuttering Tommy Rich, The Handsome Boogie Man & TRnac!

Episode 56: Roach Clip

The MOTHERSHIP lands for the first time in 2017 with another jam packed episode of the 6:05 Superpodcast!  The Great Brian Last is joined once again by Scott Cornish in the co-host chair for a fun and informative episode, featuring:

– Australian wrestling historian Ed Lock joins the show to discuss Mario Milano and the early days of Jim Barnett’s World Championship Wrestling promotion.  Ed talks about Barnett’s arrival in Australia, and what the wrestling landscape was like at that time.  We hear about Dominic DeNucci, Spiros Arion, Killer Kowalski, Gary Hart, Big Bad John and many other of the biggest stars to land down under.  This is a fascinating look at a territory whose stars many feel don’t get the respect they are due.

– Wrestling Historian Tom Burke is back, this week discussing Dr. Jerry Graham.  Tom was friends with the Doc, so we are able to hear both his knowledge of Graham’s career as well as personal anecdotes.  Tom also shares some great stories about Abe Ford, Tony Santos, The Vachons and more!

– Jeff Bowdren returns for part two of our discussion about the greatest wrestling matches and angles of the 1980’s.  Jeff talks about attending the first Crockett Cup in New Orleans, a wild night out for Terry Gordy in Japan, Giant Baba’s plans for Bruiser Brody & Stan Hansen and much more!  Jeff also talks about the territory he grew up watching, Championship Wrestling from Florida, and shines a light on 1982 in the Sunshine State, which was filled with great matches and angles and saw the surprising emergence of David Von Erich as a heel.
