Episode 73: Wrestling Wars

Baby Baby!  Call Somebody!  The 6:05 Superpodcast is back!  This week on The Mothership, The Great Brian Last is joined by a first timer in the co-host chair, longtime photographer Howard Baum.  This fun & packed episode features:

– Ron Fuller, The Tennessee Stud & host of the Studcast, joins the show to discuss wrestling promotional wars.  Ron shares his memories of the Georgia wrestling war between the NWA & Ann Gunkel’s All South promotion, as well as the story of what happened to his promotion, Southeastern Championship Wrestling, in 1979 when several top stars decided to run against him.  This is a true history lesson from one of the very best storytellers in wrestling!

– Tony Myers joins the show, in part one of a two part conversation, to discuss his career in Memphis.  Tony talks about being a huge fan of Memphis wrestling and then getting the opportunity to work there.  We hear stories about Jerry Lawler, Bill Dundee, Jamie Dundee and a locker room brawl between Luna Vachon & Jacqueline.  Tony also talks about how he broke into the business, as well as his memories of a young Flex Kavana, better known as The Rock!

– Polish Joe Ciupik is back to discuss Herb Abrams, GLOW, Larry Nelson and everything he has going on with Classic Wrestling, including their videos which are now available for rent or purchase at classicwrestling.com!

Episode 72: Beau The Dog

– Longtime WWWF TV “timekeeper at the bell” Mike Mittman talks about his many years sitting ringside at TV tapings in Allentown & Hamburg.  Mike shares him memories of popular ring announcer Joe McHugh, who he was close with, as well as Dr. George Zahorian, who Mike introduced into the world of wrestling.  Mike talks about Vince McMahon Sr. & Jr., Gorilla Monsoon, Phil Zacko & many more.  Mike also tells us about the night he refereed a Saturday Night’s Mani Event and got clobbered by Andre The Giant!

Episode 71: Milo Of Croton

The Mothership has landed again and the 6:05 Superpodcast is back! The Great Brian Last is joined this week by Mike Mills of the Booking The Territory podcast for a packed episode, featuring:

– Bobby Fulton of The Fantastics is back again to talk about the time in July of 1983 that he refused to do a job for the Road Warriors.  Bobby talks all about why he wouldn’t do it and how Ole Anderson reacted.  We also hear Bobby’s memories or working with a young Ultimate Warrior & Sting in both Memphis and the UWF.  Bobby also shares his thoughts on working with the Sheepherders and tells us what he did to once upset Dr. Death Steve Williams!

– Longtime photographer Howard Baum joins the show to discuss his role in the memorable 1984 Memphis angle where Eddie Gilbert & Tommy Rich were presented with the tag team of the year award.  Howard also shares him memories of meeting a young Raven, getting attacked by Terry Funk, and bothering Jerry Lawler.  Plus Howard & TGBL discuss their opinions of ECW then vs. now.  A really fun talk!

Episode 70: Cornette Is Back

– Barry Rose rejoins the show to discuss the recent CWF Legends Fanfest that he promoted.  Barry talks about everything that happened that weekend, from tours of Florida wrestling landmarks to the wrestler who wanted to remain incognito during the event.

Episode 69: Hot Dog

Call Somebody!  The 6:05 Superpodcast is back again!  This week, The Great Brian Last is joined by popular co-host Scott Cornish for another packed show, featuring:

– Brennon Martin, grandson of legendary promoter Christine Jarrett, joins the show to discuss his new book Teeny: Professional Wrestling’s Grand Dame.  Brennon talks about why the book is called a biographical novel and the process he went through to put his grandmother’s story together.  We hear all about how Teeny got involved in the wrestling business, her relationships with Nick Gulas and Roy Welch, her “grip” and more!  We also hear about some George Gulas goofiness and Brennon clears up some of the rumors about Jerry Jarrett’s parentage.

– In part two of our conversation with Wayne St. Wayne, we hear about Wayne working in his home town of St. Louis. Wayne also talks about his time in Calgary, from meeting Stu Hart to rooming with J.R. Foley, with lots of hijinks in between. We also hear about his transition from active wrestler into a well regarded artist.

– Dean Silverstone talks about his friend, the late wrestling historian J Michael Kenyon.  We hear about when Dean & Kenyon first met, as well as when they promoted wrestling together.  Dean shares some amazing stories about Kenyon quitting jobs, crashing cars and changing his name!

Episode 65: Through The Gift Shop

Mercy! The Superpodcast is back with another packed show of classic wrestling stories & humor!  Tom Robinson is back in the co-host chair this week, joining The Great Brian Last for a fun show which features:

– A conversation with Bryan Greenberg, who was a producer of the cult classic I Like To Hurt People!  Bryan talks all about putting the movie together and working with The Sheik and the Detroit wrestling office.  We hear about what the movie was originally going to be, what it was like to spend time at The Sheik’s house, how the movie evolved into the version we all know, and Bryan’s current project to release I Like To Hurt People Too.  We also hear about many of the characters in the movie, including Dusty Rhodes, Andre The Giant, Dick The Bruiser, Bobo Brazil & more!

– Barry Rose, the man behind the Championship Wrestling from Florida Archives facebook group, joins the show for a fun talk!   Barry talks about what it was like growing up in Florida and some of the great wrestlers he got to see on a regular basis.  We hear about how Barry heard the news about the plane crash that ended Buddy Colt’s wrestling career and ended Bobby Shane’s life.  Barry also talks about the fun times he had at the WFIA conventions in Knoxville and Atlanta, including his memories of the night Ole Anderson turned on Dusty Rhodes in the cage!  Finally, Barry lets us know all about the upcoming event he has put together bringing The Assassin, and others, back to Florida!
